The idea for this project began when one of our officers was talking to our club adviser about her science fair project and wanting to monitor Coyote Creek in the future as an independent project; our adviser suggested the idea could be potentially applied to a larger audience (the student body). In the spring and summer of 2019, YBHSGoGreen was drafted and is led Khuyen; a note from our officer: "Environmental science interests me and after previous encounters with science fairs and its amusement, I decided to take my interest and turn it into something students at our high school could participate in. The idea of monitoring the creek long-term can serve as a way for us to evaluate changes in the environment, such as how climate change may impact the composition of the water. I brought this idea back to our club and with the help of my officers and adviser, we turned this idea I envisioned into reality. Our starting path may not be perfect, but with revision [from past mistakes] and support, I'm excited for what's to come." -Khuyen Nguyen Here at Yerba Buena Green Club, we aim to provide scientific data for the public and our student to view since there is no annual report designated to this section of the water body. It's important that our students can access such program and learn more about their environment as we can not solve issues if we don't understand its diagnostic. Thus, sampling and understanding the water composition in Coyote Creek is a crucial start. We may not be able to solve the problems within one year but by continuing to collect data, we can get a comprehensive understanding of our environment.
Our collection site is on the segment between Roberts and Phelan Ave (behind our school); on the site, we would proceed with our physical and chemical tests (refer to research page). Collected data is then organized into graphs and updated on our website.
